april 2 - End of season
It all comes down to this
we are into the home stretch and somehow, even after all these injuries we are still in with a shout
most of the lads are back bar a few and we need everyone to give it their all
usually i'd mess up a team talk at this point, so i let Captain Livesey have the floor to see if he could come up with something more inspirational
"Lads"
*the team look on*
"THIS, IS, SALFORD!"
*rapturous cheers and shouting*
didnt realise it was that simple, thanks Captain
first up
the game in hand
against arch enemies Chelmsford
We finally beat them!
when it matters most!
i feared the worst after 2 minutes when we went behind but the lads rallied and got the 3 points
we are top
for now.
A very 50/50 game settle by a moment of magic
Rabbi broke down the left wing, beat his man and made his way into the box, he dropped the shoulder, beat the centre back and smashed the ball home before running into the salford away end
what a match
what a moment
what a man!
its tight
very tight
we need to just concentrate on our own game and do what we can
we've certainly got the easier run in
but i'd have liked to not have to play FC United in this bit
its in our hands.
A Great win
Balboa, Puig, Redshaw
they've all been the main man at times this season, and they all pulled together today to win this one
we got a £750 fine for the yellow cards, but it doesnt matter
where does this leave us??
Newport slipped
Aldershot and Chelmsford drew
the next game is the biggest in the clubs history
and its against
FC UNITED
no way
a sell out for the first time see 5106 people cram into moor lane for the derby to end all derbies
i dare not look
The moment the ball hit the net from the head of Piergianni the whole city of Salford erupted
we held on, and it wasnt conclusive but we did it, we beat the nemesis and kept our 4 point gap at the top
this meant that we only had to match Newport in their next 2 games to win the league and go into league 2!
Next up
Struggling Eastleigh
We Drew
Both teams missed penalties and we nearly bottled it but good old Jack Redshaw equalised in the 88th minute to spark scenes of jubilation
but as the game came to a close, people turned to their phones and radios to hear how Newport had got on
it was the 95th minute
and
Champions!
We
Are
Champions!
Newport drew 0-0 and we won the league with a game to spare
We are a league team!
bye bye Vanarama National
it's been emotional
Lewis picked up a bad knock and that ends his loan spell
i'd love him back though, he has been excellent
hopefully we can get him permanently next season if we cant get him on another free loan
Thanks Jamal!
The lads were last seen in the middle of manchester on the drink at 3pm on wednesday after they went up, i ditched training and let them have this
we played the reserves in the last game, with no first teamers taking part as i couldnt find them anywhere
i dont care we lost 2-0 it didnt matter!
this is how it finished
we won the league and it was thrilling!
Woking are the worst team ive ever seen and deserved more than relegation
it'l be interesting to see who comes up with me
Newport have deserved it, but there is a few good teams in there
Newport did come up
im glad really
they pushed us hard
Maynard won player of the year after a great campaign where he featured over 50 times
Puig rightfully bagged 2 awards too
Redshaw won goal of the season, it was a volley, but puig's solo effort early on in the campaign was better for me
finally!
Manager of the year
i reckon sidwell had this in the bag but i purposely voted for Waddock to stop him
i earned this if i say so myself
95-/1 shots at the start of the season, yet we brought it home!
the man released by FC united proved them wrong by joining Swansea then loaning down the road to Newport and winning player of the year AGAIN
The season is over
and we move onto League 2
can we stay up?
It's going to be hard, very hard
we have a team nowhere near the quality needed in league 2, so people will have to move on
people will have to come in
but one person staying is me
even if clubs come knocking
see you next season!
