Pre Season

PRE SEASON

so pre-season was underway and Zak Dunstan shocked the managerial world by running a poll amongst the Salford City fans to decide on the teams formation for the start of the season!

the voting was so close it needed a tie-breaker which came courtesy of the clubs fan spokesperson Stuart Latchford and 4-3-3 was chosen for the start of the new era at Salford!

After picking the best XI in the new formation, Zak realised his team needed a few new players, with the key being a deep lying playmaker who could pull the strings in this new look formation.

But first

An assistant manager was needed...

Paul Driver is the man tasked with helping Zak through this first season at least, the determined, experienced and disciplined assistant is a no brainer at this level and should be head and shoulders above his peers at this level.

And now, we needed some players

Ben Chapman, brought in on loan from gillingham should add the flair needed to the midfield and with no wages, should prove to be a steal at this level.

Snorre Strand Nilsen again looks to add some style to the midfield 3 but this man comes with a little more subastance. A midfielder with a good engine, decent man marking and an eye for a pass might not be first choice just yet, but will certainly look to press for a place in the starting XI in the not too distant future.

Decarrey Sheriff is another free loan signing with no risk, he brings lots of pace and decent dribbling and finishing stats, however, he does look very lightweight and looks to be very much and impact sub.

I was always planning to sign Ronaldo at some point during this save.

OK

so maybe its not the same

but Ronaldo Jones is a tricky winger who i am looking to convert into a decent backup option to Nottingham at right wing back, and, in those closer games, he could just make the difference from the bench with his pace and agility.

Results

A mixed bag of results in pre-season

a win against the under 18's was expected, the loss to Bath shows we aren't in for a cakewalk at this level like we might have expected, although its still early days

a good win and a clean sheet at porthmadog was much needed and built some confidence

the 3-5 loss to Oldham wasnt and ideal result, but scoring 3 against a league 1 team gives us real hope for our strike force this year, Jack Redshaw bagged a brace to go with 1 in either of the previous 2 games too

and finally, a good 3-1 win against Dereham, again, with a brace for Redshaw rounded off pre-season well.

could we turn this decent momentum into a good first month of the season?

Next time we will see how we got on in our first competitive month

Thank you and see you next time.
